New Tools for DCM Staff
Intro
Welcome to DCM G-Suite for Business!
DCM uses Google’s G-Suite for Business. A lot of people come to DCM with no experience with these. If that’s the case, please spend some time learning. These tools are great for communicating and collaborating.
Start with these
- Gmail
- Calendars
- Docs & Drive.
Everyone learns differently. Jump in and start swimming, or look through some of these Guides and Videos suggestions below. The goal is to become comfortable using these.
This page is a tibute to Goodnight Everyone by Chris Haughton.
DCM Google Groups
DCM Google Groups are used to send email to the right people. Use playing@dupagechildrensmuseum.org to send Gmail to everyone in the Playing and Learning Department. Current List of DCM Google Groups
Gmail
Welcome to DCM Gmail!
Your DCM gmail account is your work email. When you send Gmail from your DCM account you represent DCM.
The format is <first initial><last name> @dupagechildrensmuseum.org.
example: Bilbo Baggins would be bbaggins@dupagechildrensmuseum.org.
Go to gmail.com on any browser.
Login : bbaggins@dupagechildrensmuseum.org
Password: <initial password> see Margaret …
If you forget your password ask Margaret or FrameWork to reset it.
Basics to Learn
– create, send, receive emails
– employ labels to organize
– become familiar with settings:
– set an auto response
– create a signature line
Here are Guides and Videos. The most important take away is that there are many ways to learn.
DCM Signature Line
All staff members are asked to append a signature line to their emails. Jaime (jjohnson) is responsible for this signature line. Here are the current DCM Singnature Line Instructions. If you cannot open ask Jaime for access.

Calendars
Please use your DCM individual calendar. This makes scheduling meetings possible.
People within our domain (@dupagechildrensmuseum.org) will be able to see the events in your calendar. You can set the details of your event to “Private” so that others will only see “busy” on your calendar instead of “colonoscopy”.
Basics to Learn
- create, delete an event
- invite others to event
- check the busy/avail status of your peers
- display the DCM shared calendars merged with your calendar
DCM Shared Calendars
There are several shared DCM calendars. All of these are shown (merged) below.

You will also receive an invitation to each of these calendars. Clicking on the link in that email is only one way to add these calendars to yours.

DCM Shared Calendars
You can only see these calendars if you are logged on with a @dupagechildrensmuseum.org account.
Docs & Drive
Docs is Google’s version of Microsoft Word. Drive is where you create and store your Docs (ie it’s a platform). DCM staff members collaborate with each other via Docs & Drives. Unlike Word, Docs (and most Google tools) allows for real time collaboration. You don’t have to coordinate who has the latest version of the document.
Your G-Drive is your 30GB piece of the cloud. It is not just a platform for using Google tools. Use it to send files that are too large to append to an email. Create a shared space for a team to share materials.
Basics to Learn
- Create a new Doc
- Create a new Directory in your Drive
- Share a Doc with someone

Sheets
Sheets is a spreadsheet program. It is not as feature rich as Excel is but it’s a great alternative. Like Docs, Sheets is used on the Google Drive platform. It is probably not a high priority to learn but keep in mind where to learn about it.

Forms & Surveys
Google Forms creates forms, questionnaires, quizzes. It emails your form and automatically collects the users’ answers in a spreadsheet.
Great for planning office parties, or sending anonymous surveys about customer satisfaction. Also one of the cheapest ways (free) to create a quiz.

Slides
Slides is Google’s version of Microsoft PowerPoint. It’s easy to use. It keeps your presentation in the cloud, where you can find it even when you forget your flash drive, or crashed your laptop.
Slides also makes a good platform for creating basic graphics with Google tools.
